Code Enforcement

Overview

The Code Enforcement Department is primarily responsible for the issuance of permits and the enforcement of State Building Codes that include the following: Building Code, Energy Conservation Code, Residential Code, Existing Building Code, Fire Code, Property Maintenance Code, Plumbing Code, Fuel Gas Code, Mechanical Code as well as Village codes and ordinances. Specific types of permits include the following: Sign Permit, Fence Permit, Pool Permit, Right of Way Permit, Demolition Permit and General Building Permit.

The Department is also responsible for conducting inspections where permits have been issued, issuing Certificates of Occupancy and Certificates of Compliance, issuing zoning compliance letters, issuing general compliance letters associated with a property sale. Questions regarding a property's zoning status, allowable property uses and other zoning information should be directed to the Building Department.

Additionally, the Code Enforcement Department is a liaison to the Village Zoning Board of Appeals. All applications to the Zoning Board of Appeals begin in the Building Department. Questions regarding the type of information required, submission and meeting dates and application fees should all be directed to the Building Department by visiting the Village Office or by calling (585) 624-6150.
